Anita Saarkessian
Anita Sarkeesian is a Canadian-American feminist media critic as well as a public speaking. She created Feminist Frequency, a site which features video and posts analyzing the portrayals of females in popular culture. Anita Sarkeesian a Canadian American media critic. Feminist Frequency is a not-for profit site for education that investigates gender representation in popular stories of culture - was created and directed by Sarkeesian. Dispelling stereotypes of women is her main focus. But, she also highlights issues related to targeted harassment against women online as well as other communities who are excluded. Sarkeesian is a graduate in political and social thinking at York University. As a public speaker, she is extremely sought-after and has been a speaker at TEDxWomenXOXO and the United Nations Broadband Working Group. Since her early years Sarkeesian was captivated with gender issues and feminist thought. When she was still in school, in 2009, she created her Feminist Frequency website. This ambitious woman planned to start an internet-based series that examined the role of gender in games however, she was also the subject of an online campaign to harass her. The attack did not deter her instead it made her more determined to be a feminist media critic. To honor the numerous contributions she has made to feminist movements, she has been the recipient of numerous awards. Anita Sarkeesian, a media critic, has been awarded several awards and founded Feminist Frequency which is an educational organization that focuses on the way women are depicted in media narratives.
